Become a Coach

We have a team of coaches of all levels here in Kinross, and we are always looking for new members to the coaching team.

You do not have to be a great curler to be a coach. We need coaches for Try Curling sessions and beginners courses, for the juniors and after school sessions, to help at club coaching sessions and sometimes for private coaching.

Coaching Qualifications

Coaching often starts with volunteering as an assistant. Assistants work alongside a qualified coach to deliver coaching sessions. The qualified coach runs the session and the assistant will not be left on their own or expected to lead the coaching.

Coaches start with a Level One qualification run by Scottish Curling which is open to anyone over the age of 15. Coaches who will work with children or disabled groups will have to join the PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) scheme and attend a child protection and wellbeing course.

When you join our coaching team you will be able to specify the areas that interest you, such as children or adults, or individual coaching, and the amount of time you have available.

If you are interested and would like to find out more, please contact the the office, on office@kinrosscurling.co.uk. You can also find out more at www.scottishcurling.org/coaching-officiating.

Coaches Expenses & Benefits

Coaches at Kinross are volunteers who generously donate their time for the benefit of other curlers and the rink. This is greatly appreciated by the Trust.

Coaches should not be out of pocket as a result of coaching, and the following expense and benefits have been put in place to ensure this, and to provide a small reward for the effort they put in.

Allowable Expenses

  • The cost of any required or relevant coaching qualifications or registrations will be covered by the rink providing they have been pre-approved, and the coach is available and willing to coach here. These may have to be paid upfront when registering for a course, but proof of payment will be accepted to process a refund.
  • A Mileage allowance of 25p per mile will be paid to cover coaches and assistants when they use their own cars to drive to the rink to for the sole purpose of coaching.

Benefits

  • Coaches and assistants are entitled to a free hot drink after their session. The bar staff should understand this request, but if there are any issues just let us know.
  • Coaches and assistants are entitled to a discounted practice pass for the following season. The discount depends on the number of sessions coached, with each session giving a 10% discount, so the pass would be free for coaches who have attended 10 or more sessions. This is non-transferrable.
  • Fully qualified coaches who are available and willing to coach will be provided with a jacket to wear when coaching. The jacket will be for the sole use of the coach, as long as they are in the coaching team in Kinross. It is their responsibility to ensure it is kept clean. When a coach steps down from the coaching team, the jacket should be returned so it can be handed on to someone else.
